Deman and Van Der Bruggen react after the team's 3-1 victory against Sint-Truiden

Cercle won 3-1 against STVV on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Ueda and Denkey. Still, it was not an easy match for our Groen-Zwart, as Deman and Van Der Bruggen told the press afterwards.

In the first half hour the game often stopped and at times there were more duels than there was real football. Olivier Deman could confirm this: “It was not easy. There were constant long balls in the first two minutes and that typified the rest of the match. Still, I think we were the better team and deserved to win.”

Van Der Bruggen came on in the second half and he knew how important the three points are. “It was indeed perhaps not our best match, but it is good that we won. We're still in the top eight and that's crazy. It is not in our own hands, but we are not going to start calculating and just go for it against Zulte Waregem,” said Van Der Bruggen.

If Cercle Brugge win next weekend in Waregem, it means that the Essevee will drop to the second division. That will not stop the Groen-Zwart, said Deman: “It is not only in that match that will they lose their place in the top flight. It would be a shame for them, but that's football. I think it will be a great game, as both teams have something on the line.”

Cercle Brugge managed to beat Sint-Truiden on the penultimate match day of the regular season. It took a penalty kick, two nicely played counterattacks and a lot of resilience to do so. Ueda (twice) and Denkey were the goalscorers for Cerlce, who are now in eighth place, level with Charleroi, so the last round of the season will decide who goes into the Europe Play-Offs.
