Two youth team players sign development contracts: Congratulations Xander Martlé and Christiaan Ravych!

Two of the team's promising young players players have been rewarded with new contracts from Cercle Brugge. Xander Martlé (18 years old) and Christiaan Ravych (19 years old) have signed development contracts through June 2023, with the option for an additional season. This is once more a strong signal from Cercle that it is fully committed to the development and promotion of its own young players.

Xander Martlé is an attacking midfielder who originally comes from the Cercle academy, but after a period at KAA Gent has returned to play for the Groen-Zwart's youth team this season. “Xander has excellent intelligence on the pitch”, says youth team coach Wouter Artz. “Despite his rather small stature, Xander stands his ground, is very involved in the game and has excellent technical ability.” Martlé, who can also play as a left and right winger, also has several caps as a youth international.

Christiaan Ravych, meanwhile, is a central defender who has been playing for Cercle since this summer. He is a product the academy of our neighbors at Club Brugge. Youth team coach Wouter Artz: “Chris has shown that he is a real killer as a defender. He is very good at building play out of defense and is also a fine at ball recovery. Chris has an excellent mindset to get involved with precision tactically." Just like Xander Martlé, Christiaan Ravych is a former youth international: across six matches for the Belgian U16 and U17 teams, he also scored once.

Technical director Carlos Aviña: “Last season we were fourth in Belgium in terms of teams that gave the most opportunities to our own young players. Last weekend, five acacemy players were involved in the victory against Kortrijk. It is clear that we want to continue this trend. Xander and Chris represent that future, they have shown with their performances with the youth team that they have the potential to make it to the first team.”

Youth team coach Wouter Artz: “I am very happy that people believe in the players of the youth team and that there is confidence in our ability to prepare players for the first team. That Xander and Chris can take this step is fantastic, but I would also like to say that there are more players who have also made progress and who will also be eligible in the near future."

Congratulations Xander and Christian!
